Epolog #2

The Eubank cemetery is 200 meters upslope to the north of James' house.

While hiking the woods downslope from the house a few years ago I noticed something that stunned me. There is a 6' linear depression that looks nothing like a treefall; it looks exactly like a grave collapse depression. And there is a white stone exactly where a headstone marker would be.

It is almost certainly the resting place of the 30-year old enslaved woman recorded in the 1850 slave census.

My inclination is to leave her in peace, but I think a fence might be wise since I too will be 6' under one of these days.  

UPDATE: I have contracted with archaeologists to conduct a non-invasive ground-penetrating radar probe of this feature to confirm that it is a grave. Probably in January 2026.  To be continued...
