Epilog: In 2011 I tracked down George Washington Eubank’s grandson: George Carter Eubank of Lynchburg. "Young George" was an 82-year old retiree, a Korean War veteran, and a lovely man. He was born in his grandfather’s house in 1929. He had no clear memory of it since his grandfather died and his family left the farm when he was very small. (Others left too, and a 1945 chancery suit notes that the farm was overgrown.) He had even come up to the George Place once before to try to find his birthplace, but hadn’t known where to look. He was delighted when I took him to the remains of his house by the creek. |
