In 1860 each household had an additional child that did not appear in the US census. The 1860 slave census recorded that each owned an enslaved girl, aged 9 and 10. The adult slave woman has disappeared. It is most likely that she had died, leaving two daughters.
Given the dates, it is clearly possible that the girls may have been fathered by James and/or John; it is also possible that the enslaved woman had a husband on one of the nearby farms. We will never know.
