The brothers both married a bit late, and when they did they married sisters, in ceremonies two days apart in December 1853. James married Lucy Shepherd, John married Martha Shepherd.
James and family lived on the high ground overlooking the creek valley, where the massive chimney is still intact. John and family were in the house 100 yards down the hill by the creek, where there is the chimney base.
